Cataloguing Group

Introduction

The Cataloguing Interest Group was formed at the Second Islamic Manuscript Conference in 2006. The group is directed by a sub-committee who set priorities for action and determine the remit of the group's work.

Current Priorities

The sub-committee's current priorities include determining:

  • What transliteration/romanisation schemes are being used by member institutions for Arabic, Persian and Ottoman Turkish.
  • What standards/sources/procedures are used in member institutions for establishing name authorities, subject headings and uniform titles in Arabic, Persian and Turkish.
  • Which member institutions have online manuscript catalogues and whether these have non-roman capability.
  • Whether member institutions follow specific guidelines for the cataloguing of Islamic manuscripts, and if so, which?
